DUBAI \/\/ The UAE is one of the main benefactors helping to rebuild Libya’s interior ministry and security forces, the country’s ambassador Aref Nayed said yesterday.<\/p>\n

The Emirates is providing 100 police vehicles, 16,000 police and army uniforms and advice on training and restructuring to the transitional government in Libya.<\/p>\n

The assistance comes as the National Transitional Council (NTC) tries to stabilize the country. Police officers are needed to guard banks, prevent looting and maintain order.<\/p>\n

The EU, the UK and the UN are also helping with security.<\/p>\n

The UAE was “one of the key countries”, said Mr. Nayed, who also oversaw the stabilization team tasked with helping the country recover after the liberation of Tripoli a month ago.<\/p>\n

Today, more than 90 percent of retail bank branches have reopened in the capital city, said Wafik Shater, a stabilization team coordinator.<\/p>\n

The Islamic State terrorist group likely will launch an attack on Italy within weeks, not months, according to a senior Libyan government official.<\/p>\n

Aref Ali Nayed<\/strong>, Libya\u2019s ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, said in an interview that one likely method of attack would be to use stolen Libyan airliners now believed to be in the hands of Islamists in Libya.<\/p>\n\n\n
