Advisor on National Security to the Libyan Prime Minister
Following the events of 2011, Libyan elected officials and leaders of Libyan government institutions sorely needed suitably experienced and competent advisors capable of providing them with advice that would enable them to formulate appropriate policy and well-grounded decisions.
Given the wealth of experience that Aref Nayed had gained through his entrepreneurial efforts and through his scholarship, combined with his diplomatic experience, Nayed accepted the request from Prime Minister Abdullah al-Thini to function as his Advisor on National Security.

Aref was one of the very few people equipped to provide unbiased advice on national security matters and who also had the international connections to support the actions contained in that advice.
Nayed’s contribution during the period of his position as Advisor on National Security was highly appreciated by Prime Minister Abdullah al-Thini and his office.
