Fair

Fair

I see a fair Libya, where everyone has an equal opportunity; where social justice is a reality rather than an unrealized ideal.

I see a Libya where every citizen – woman, man, and child – has equal rights. I see a Libya where the dignity of every human being is revered, where every individual’s rights are protected and where intolerance is utterly rejected.

I see a Libya where human rights, such as freedom of expression, freedom of assembly, the right to an adequate standard of living, the right to adequate food, housing, water, and sanitation, and the right to education, are vigorously protected by the rule of law. Widespread human rights violations have led to a situation in which we live in fear and are unable to exercise the civil, political, economic, and social rights we fought so hard since 2011.

I see a Libya where our country’s abundant resources benefit everyone, including our future generations, rather than a privileged elite; where all have equal opportunity to benefit from the blessings of our homeland. We must ensure that women can thrive and participate equally in our country’s future. We must provide our youth with access to education, healthcare and social services, and employment opportunities that allow them to realize their full potential. Our veterans require adequate healthcare, education, and career transition assistance to reintegrate back into their families and communities. We must also work towards overcoming societal, physical, and infrastructural barriers that prevent the disabled from living long and productive lives.

I see a Libya where all citizens are held accountable to laws that are fairly applied; where our leaders and officials are held accountable for their actions and the decisions they make, and where national and local government is characterized by decency, honesty, competence, efficiency and transparency. We must move from being a country where disputes are settled by violence to establishing a system where rule of law prevails. Fundamental rights must be protected and human rights violations prosecuted.
