My Plan for Libya

Greater Transparency

Our nation’s natural resources are a gift that all Libyans share. It is imperative that a legal framework is created to ensure that Libyans for generations to come enjoy the benefits of our natural resource wealth. We must support and implement a new petroleum law to create a more transparent, fair, and efficiently managed oil and gas sector that addresses revenue sharing between central and local government.

Environmental Responsibility

While national dialogue is routinely dominated by our oil and gas resources, we must take urgent measures to protect our other precious resources such as water, biodiversity, land, fisheries, nature reserves, deserts and fragile ecosystems. Here we need to develop and enforce legislation that requires environmental impact assessment for all publicly funded and privately owned infrastructure projects. Additionally, we are aware of the importance of the role assigned to government agencies to monitor the compliance of factories and companies with environmental laws and regulations. We must invest in our country’s future by taking advantage of renewable energy sources, the vast desert covering southern Libya is an ideal environment for investing in solar energy production.
