Aref Nayed: The Libyan Presidential Council is Disqualified and Expired

26/06/2020

ABU DHABI – The head of Ihya Libya, the former Libyan ambassador to the UAE, Aref Nayed, described the so-called Presidency Council of the Government of National Accord in Tripoli as an “authoritarian regime,” pointing out that “this regime has ruled Libya so far for nearly 5 years even though it is an unelected presidential council. These are very important facts as it never won a parliamentary acclamation.”

He added, “Unfortunately, international legitimacy was given to him by a kind of imposition under Chapter Seven and on the imposition of the Security Council, even though the person who was chosen (Fayez al-Sarraj) was not on the parliament’s lists and was not on the lists of the National Congress.”

He continued, “This council was chosen and remained in power, and instead of a year, it is now completing its fifth year and it is incomplete. After five of its members resigned, only four of them remain, and although it lacks the capacity and legitimacy and has expired, but it signs agreements as happened with the agreement with Turkey, which is Agreements that endanger the national security of Libya, endangers the national security of neighboring countries and creates the reasons for a new Ottoman colonialism in Libya, unfortunately.
