20/01/2015

The Libya Institute for Advanced Studies (LIAS) and U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP) and entered a partnership to hold joint activities working with Libyans to prevent, manage, and resolve conflict without violence.

The two organizations will collaborate on workshops, public lectures, and conferences in both Libya and the United States. In doing so, USIP and LIAS hope to enhance conflict resolution skills in Libyan society through knowledge sharing, training, and development of curriculum and teaching materials. Additionally, LIAS and USIP will foster networks of peacebuilding actors and activities across Libya.

As their first jointly held activity, USIP and LIAS co-hosted an event in Washington, DC, entitled “Comparative National Dialogue Approaches: Transition Processes of Libya, Tunisia, and Yemen”. The event discussed some broader lessons learned from national dialogue processes in the Middle East and North Africa looking at the cases of Tunisia and Yemen, and how lessons learned can be shared as Libyans embark on their own national dialogue process.
