Dr Aref Nayed, Chairman of the Libya Institute for Advanced Studies and a candidate for Libya’s 2018 presidential election, condemned the assassination attempt on Libyan Armed Forces Chief of General Staff Lt. General Abdul Razeq al-Nadhuri east of Benghazi.

“We thank God for the safety of General Abdul Razeq al-Nadori and his companions,” Dr Aref Nayed said in a press release on Wednesday evening.

The candidate for the Libyan presidential election called on the Libyan people to stand up to terrorism its treachery, its cunning and its slander, stressing the importance of cohesion, unity, consultation, cooperation and transcendence over narrow interests, warning of false rumors and false news.

“In the face of the desperate attempts of the conspirators to reduce Libya to the deals of their weak and failed parties, and in the face of their cunning attempts to penetrate every path organized by the United Nations, we must all call at home, at the level of the social fabric, civil, municipal, villages and tribal in a new social contract, which builds a solid foundation of national reconciliation and social harmony, and is fit to be based on a strong and prosperous Libyan state.”

Nayed reiterated his call for speeding up the holding of fair and transparent presidential, parliamentary and municipal elections in Libya to thwart all attempts by the obscurantists to stall the elections, which the United Nations promised to hold in September 2018, and the Electoral Commission announced its full readiness.

Nayed called for moving forward with the rounds of unification of the Libyan army sponsored by Egypt to stand up to the failed strikes of the heroic Libyan army men, and to get around the heroes of Libya’s army, police and intelligence in the war of Libyans against terrorism, its promoters and supporters, so that we remove it from the branches of the state and its institutions and eliminate all its sleeping outposts and cells, he said.
