Cairo Meetings Culminate in a Preliminary Agreement Between the Libyan Factions

Cairo – Egypt announced, on Wednesday, that an agreement had been reached between the two most powerful Libyan political factions to form a joint committee to consider amending the political agreement on settling the Libyan crisis, which was sponsored by the United Nations in late 2015.

The Egyptian National Committee, which is in charge of mediating the Libyan file and headed by the Egyptian Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Mahmoud Hegazy, held meetings during the past two days in Cairo with the head of the Libyan Presidency Council Fayez al-Sarraj, the Speaker of the Libyan Parliament, Aqila Saleh, and the Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Army, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, The presence of the Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry.
