Nayed: Delaying the Elections Serves Terrorist Gangs and Corrupt Parties

25/03/2018

The Chairman of the Libya Institute for Advanced Studies and candidate for the presidential elections, Aref Nayed welcomed the renewal of the UN envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salamé, of the commitment of the United Nations to hold presidential and parliamentary elections in 2018.

Nayed called on the international community, especially members of the Security Council, the African Union and the League of Arab States, to support the people to choose whom they want through the ballot box.

Nayed added that renewing and unifying legitimacy through elections is a necessary issue, indicating that the humanitarian and economic situation of civilians in Libya, especially the displaced, is no longer intolerable, and the human rights situation is disastrous by all standards.

Nayed pointed out that the apparent delay in postponing the elections only serves terrorist gangs and corrupt parties, adding that the only way to save the country is through conducting fair, transparent and protected elections in their implementation and implementation of their results by the United Nations and its Security Council, the African Union and the League of Arab States.

And the candidate for the upcoming presidential elections expressed his hope that the candidacy announcements would follow for every person who sees himself eligible for the presidency or for membership in Parliament.
