Libya to Develop Stronger National Statistics Capabilities With Dubai Statistics Center Support

02/02/2015

To improve national statistics gathering and analysis capabilities, Dr. Aref Ali Nayed facilitated the training of Libyan statisticians through a two week program with the Dubai Statistics Center (DSC). DSC is a leader in the region in developing national statistics systems and is an internationally certified training organization.

In the training, the Libyan delegation created a Libya Information System with support from DSC. The Libya Information System will be developed further to launch an integrated system of national statistics portal containing data to more effectively supervise government plans and projects and guide policy making.

The Libyan delegation was also exposed to Dubai’s system of e-statistics. Dubai’s e-statistics system, which the delegation members hope to adopt in Libya, allows access to information, statistical indicators, and time series. The system provides government entities with access to a standardized statistical database of demographic, economic and social statistical surveys which can be used to improve public policies and generate specialized reports.

Members of the Libyan delegation were also exposed to the implementation of quality management systems in national statistical agencies. DSC is the first statistical center in the world to be awarded an ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certification.
