The US Defense One website said that the former Libyan ambassador to the UAE, Aref Nayed, met with officials from the US National Security Council during two meetings held in Washington, DC, this fall, in addition to several meetings with the Foreign Ministry.

The site indicated that Nayed sent a response regarding his visits that his visit to Washington was to narrate the course of affairs in Libya from the point of view of its elected parliament, its national army, and its legitimate government. The website also mentioned that Al-Nayed’s visits also dealt with presenting detailed plans for a national unity government program, providing basic services and preparing for holding general presidential elections within 18 months of the liberation of Tripoli.
