Statement by Libyan Political Movements and Parties on the Follow-Up of the Developments of the Current Political Scene

07/05/2021

Political movements and parties followed, with gratitude, the statement issued by the Group of Seven of the world’s leading industrial nations (G7), which was consistent with the Libyan people’s insistence on the necessity of the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libyan soil as soon as possible, and its unlimited support for holding direct Presidential and Parliamentary elections in Libya on December 24, 2021, without delay or procrastination.

While expressing our sincere gratitude for this firm stance by the Group of Seven, we affirm the following:

(1)- Our full support for the patriotic and unequivocal position of the Libyan Foreign Minister regarding the necessity of the withdrawal of all foreign troops and mercenaries from the Libyan territories without delay, in order to preserve the country’s sovereignty and its independent decision.

(2)- Our condemnation of any statement calling for the continuation of external military intervention, or inciting an assault on the safety of officials because of their patriotic positions.

(3)- Our demands for the Presidential Council and the interim Government of National Unity to take a unified position that preserves national sovereignty, and to assume responsibility for providing protection to members of the government, and condemn the threats emanating from certain parties.

(4)- Our affirmation that the presence of all foreign forces on the Libyan lands does not have the approval of the Libyan people, and has not been endorsed by the House of Representatives, the only legitimate body; our condemnation of the calls by some parties to legitimize the presence of these foreign forces and mercenaries; and our call on the House of Representatives to take a national stance that affirms the necessity of the withdrawal of these foreign forces and mercenaries from the Libyan territories without delay.

God Save Libya
